Why did you choose a career at Eurofins?
After graduating, I heard about an interesting Analytical Service Manager role with Eurofins Vitamin Testing. It involved a lot of contact with customers to teach them about the vitamins, as well as research, which felt like the right fit for me. I was still figuring out which work I’d find most interesting, so I said to myself: “Go in with an open mind, and decide after 6-9 months if you should leave or stay.” That was in January 2016, and I’m still here!
What does a typical day look like for you?
No day is typical! At the moment, I’m working on the Genomics team, which is all about optimising workflow and how our analyses perform. To do this, I have to balance factors such as minimising waste and optimising profit. We have a direct effect on people’s lives and our results are fast-paced. In fact, we’re currently working on reducing the turnaround time for our COVID-19 tests even more.
What has been your favourite project at Eurofins so far?
My favourite project has been building the COVID-19 laboratory in Copenhagen from scratch. It’s been an exceptionally fast-paced project because not only does everything need to be done as fast as possible, but we don’t have the same budget constraints as other projects might. In just a matter of days, everything can change and there’s always more to be done. I’m happiest when working hard on a project that’s making quick progress.
I also worked on setting up a new laboratory in Romania. I love experiencing new cultures so the opportunity to relocate and try something different was something I went after myself.
What's your favourite thing about working for Eurofins?
You’re never bored!
Any advice for students or graduates?
